Yvette Fallandy

Professor Emerita, French

January 16, 2021

It is with deep regret that we report the death last night (Jan. 16, 2021) of a Sonoma State icon, YVETTE FALLANDY, Professor Emerita of French. She was 94 years old.

Yvette was among the original cadre of faculty at Sonoma State, hired in 1964, two years before the fledgling university (then "college") moved to its present campus location. She retired in 1998. She served as VP for Academic Affairs (now called Provost ) from 1970 to 1974. She played an instrumental role in freeing Sonoma State from the tyrannical President Peter Diamadopoulos in the early 1980's.

Yvette was legendary for her stentorian voice, which annually roared across the Commencement lawn as she read one-by-one the names of the graduating students.

She is survived by two nephews, who are handling her affairs.
