George Ledin Jr.

Professor Emeritus, Computer Science

George Ledin Jr. died peacefully at an assisted living facility on the morning of February 11, 2022, after many years of declining health due to Parkinson’s disease and dementia.

George first joined the SSU Computer Science Department in 1983 and served as CS Department Chair from 1995 until 2006. In 1989 he developed the department’s colloquium series, which was the envy of many other CSU campuses, owing to the participation of George’s strong network of former students, researchers and industry leaders as colloquium speakers. He continued to coordinate the series until 2017.

In 2007, George developed a Computer Security & Malware course, which taught students how to design computer malware. It was the first such university course in the country and stirred considerable controversy at the time. Business and government leaders soon recognized that the course taught valuable skills in the fight to protect computing from malware.

George FERPed in 2015 and continued to teach until 2018.

George was predeceased by his wife, Suzanne Ledin, in 2002. He is survived by his daughter Katya Ledin and her husband Swarnjit Singh, his son Alex Ledin and his wife Denise Ho, and his granddaughter Serena Ho-Ledin.
