Mac McCreary

From Gerryann Olson on Feb. 19, 2020

It is with sadness that I share the passing of one of our earliest faculty members, Mac McCreary. In our Stevenson department office we had a wall of photos of former faculty members, and Mac graced that wall with his wonderful smile. Alumni would often visit their old department and smile at these characters who launched the department with youthful enthusiasm and vision. Mac moved over to the School of Expressive Arts, along with Red Thomas, before he retired, but his wonderful gift of story-telling included tales of the early days of the Psychology Department and rocky periods at the University. He continued to meet yearly for forty years with about 50 SSU graduates, traveling in his later years from Wisconsin, until Covid. I am blessed to have been able to meet with him at the Redwood Cafe a few years ago to hear some great tales and department gossip. I know our current faculty did not know him, but his legacy of humor and unconditional support of student learning remains in our midst. Thanks for indulging me in this sharing about a long retired colleague.
