Rolfe Erickson

Professor Emeritus, Geology

April 11, 2023

We have just received from Vin Hoagland, Professor Emeritus of Chemistry, the following message about the recent death of Rolfe Erickson, Professor Emeritus of Geology.

Simone Wilson, who is a friend of mine and Rolfe's, called to say that Rolfe died today. He was living at Windsong in Petaluma and when Simone and Creighton Bell saw him on Saturday he was very unresponsive and wasn't eating.

I knew him as his office was sort of across the hall from mine, and after retirement, he and Steve Norwick and I would ride our bikes down to Jamamore in Penngrove most Friday mornings until Steve was hit by a driver on Petaluma Hill Road.

I went to Rolfe’s 86th birthday party last November and he wasn't in very good health at that time and I haven't seen him since.

Simone didn't know of any details concerning funeral, etc. His brother lives in Minnesota I think and his daughter is back east somewhere.

I'll let you know if I hear anything more.

Vin

Added by Rick Luttmann: Rolfe and I were both graduate students at the University of Arizona in Tucson in the mid-1960s. We did not know each other then, but it turned out later when we met as faculty colleagues at SSU that we had several friends in common.
