Susan van den Hoek Barnes, Emerita Professor of Psychology in the Hutchins School of Liberal Studies, died on April 26 at her home in Hawaii. After earning a B.A. in English from Rutgers University, an M.A. in Psychology from the University of Oklahoma, and a Ph.D. in Clinical and Developmental Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Dr. Barnes joined the Hutchins faculty in 1972 and retired in 2004. She also worked as a clinical psychologist and contributed to regional programs and boards focussing on community mental health and residential treatment for children and adolescents.
